The only compulsory homework we request is – daily reading and practice of basic facts in one form or another.
Home Learning will consist of the following
All Home Learning equipment and books are sent home and brought back to school daily, using a book bag purchased as part of stationery requirements. It is expected that BOOK BAGS come to school EVERY day and are used to transport ALL books to and from school. Our resources are shared by many children and we expect them to be treated respectfully for others to use.
Children are to read every weeknight. This may be their teacher allocated reader, other reading material allocated by the teacher or a library book. Children may have spelling or sight words to remember. Children need to practice their basic facts and mathematics knowledge. This may occasionally come in the form of a worksheet given by the teacher. Most often these basic facts and other maths skills can be practiced on Study Ladder or Maths Buddy. Teachers will give students their individual passwords and log in’s.
Class teachers will keep parents informed of the various topics being covered in class and suggest resources that may be useful should parents wish their children to do ‘extra’ work outside of class time. Our KidZone area on this website has a huge variety of online learning and practicing options to choose from if you wish your child to have extra practice anytime out of school hours.
We encourage parents to let time at home be for ‘being a kid’ so the homework set is not too onerous. We believe that it is essential for children to be able to have down time and to pursue activities that stimulate, motivate and encourage their natural passion for learning, creativity and innovation. Parents should monitor their child’s home learning, this is not the teachers responsibility. Teachers will only suggest and guide parents and students with ideas.
A homework book for each year level is available for purchase from the office. This book has enough homework activities to last a year. These books are monitored by parents and are an extra learning support that is optional and monitored at home only.
We ask that parents ensure that School Readers are returned to school each day in the child’s book bag. Faith Journals (Religious Education books) need to be sighted, commented on and returned to school at the end of each term or strand of learning.
