Why Choose Us?
WHY NOT?
If you want a superior education that focuses on Gospel values and the development of the "whole child", then look no further.
Monte Cecilia Primary School is a decile 6 school located in Hillsborough, Auckland. We are a Catholic integrated school and are the parish school of St John Vianney. The school has a maximum roll of 227 pupils and caters for years 1 to 6 inclusive, in 8 classrooms. The school’s enrolment policy gives preference to Catholic students, although 5% of the roll can be for non-preference students.
The year 6 children are encouraged to take a leadership role in the school. A ‘house’ system of four houses is each led by a house captain and vice captain. All children are encouraged to act in accordance with Catholic values in a caring and considerate manner with their peers, families and the community. An example of this is the regular participation of year 6 children in activities and masses with the residents living in the adjacent Liston Retirement Village.
The school is proud that this sense of caring community has been affirmed by the recent Catholic Character Review undertaken by the Catholic Schools’ Office. The report’s summary states:
‘Community is the heart of Catholic education. At Monte Cecilia, this is lived out as the Principal, staff and Board of Trustees work with the school and parish community to provide a complete Catholic education in a safe nurturing environment.’
OUR MISSION
The school’s mission statement is: ‘To encourage growth through a Catholic way of life.’
The Board of Trustees affirms the importance of teaching Catholic values in everyday life as part of the school’s core curriculum. The school community attends a school mass at the parish church each term, and the parish priest visits weekly for class liturgies and masses. The Board is committed to providing the highest standard of education possible to the pupils and is proud that the school has high levels of student achievement, with students consistently being in the top 40% when compared to national benchmarks. A focus for the senior management team has been assessment, to ensure that curriculum delivery programmes are monitored and results analysed so that sustained improvement in teaching and learning continues. This has resulted in a number of new curriculum initiatives targeted at particular areas of improvement.
EDUCATION FOR ALL
A number of special needs children are attending the school. The Board is committed to ensuring that Monte Cecilia is an inclusive school catering for children of all abilities. The senior management team and teaching staff are of the highest calibre and are dedicated to providing excellence in education.
COMMUNITY
The parent community is actively involved in the school, with the PTA providing a high standard of community participation and fund-raising. After school and before school care programmes are in place to provide support for working families. Community involvement in social and fund-raising events is a significant success factor in the school community relationship.
